Rose Tyler has a normal life. A normal job as a shop assistant at Henrik's department store, a normal(ish) mother named Jackie who works as a hairstylist, and a normal (if not dim-witted) boyfriend by the name of Mickey Smith. She lives in a council flat with her mother, lives her life day-to-day working, and hanging out with whom she thinks is one of the sweetest boys on the planet. She's been dating Mickey since she was fourteen years old and five years later they're still together. However everything changes with just one person coming into the life of all three of these mere human beings. One man who for no real reason who Rose happens to meet up with one night completely by accident. One man who's lived a life longer than anyone Rose could have ever imagined up just by simple creativity alone. One man who she never thought she would leave her little life behind for. This man was named the Doctor - or so he says. Rose was working late one very random and seemingly normal night, on her normal routine for closing up the shop she headed down the elevator to the basement where the safes were in search for the trusted manager that would lock up the cash for the night until the shop's opening the next day. For some reason, the manager was nowhere to be found and while she was wandering around the basement calling to him she bumped into a large amount of mannequins which she thought the manager might have put together. Feeling a hand on her shoulder caused a shriek from the young girl when she was whirled around to see the face of a man she had never met before. The first and only thing he said to her was simply: "Run." Confused and scared, she complied when behind herself and this stranger the mannequins, or 'mannequins,' suddenly sprang to life and a chase began. Once the stranger led Rose from the building he asked her for her name, which she told him and in reply he told her "I'm the Doctor." There was a swift good-bye and while Rose made her way out to the sidewalk behind her Henrik's department store completely and utterly - blew up. This left her, obviously, laid off.

One of the hands of the mannequins follows Rose home and sneaks in her shared flat through the little cat door that Rose seems to have told her mother to close off many times. Leaning down to lock the little cat door while telling her mother that if she doesn't keep it locked the cats will get in, Rose has the complete shock to see the Doctor on the other side of the door when it moves as she's trying to lock it and to see if it's a cat she lifts it opened. When she opens the door to ask him what the hell he's doing he barges into her home and tells her about the mannequins not actually being mannequins but are some alien race by the name of Autons and that he has tracked one to her home. Jackie, her mother flirts (just a bit) with the Doctor and is rejected by him, she sets about getting tea ready while Rose and the Doctor talk in the small living room when suddenly the hand of the Auton that followed Rose home leaps out from behind the couch and attaches it's hand to the face of the Doctor who struggles only for a moment before tugging it from his face and casting it aside. Once cast aside the hand of the Auton leaps for Rose's throat, while the Doctor rants about the Autons and Rose struggles to breathe. Luckily for her the Doctor eventually notices the Auton around her throat and tugs her free of it. Using his 'ultimate weapon' the Sonic Screwdriver, he leaves the Auton useless and thus saves Rose's life, again. However, she is not amused. When her boyfriend Mickey is taken hostage by the Autons, Rose and the Doctor work out tracking down the hiding place of the Nestene Consciousness that is behind the Autons where Rose saves not only Mickey from the Auton's but the Doctor himself as well. She and Mickey follow the Doctor back to a large police call box which he tells them is his ship called the TARDIS. Initially when he asks Rose to tag along with him in his travels, she turns him down with the excuse that someone has to look after Mickey. However when pure moments pass and the Doctor pops his head from the doors of the TARDIS and tells Rose that they could travel through time, she accepts leaving Mickey with a kiss on the cheek as she leaves with the Doctor to begin her incredible adventures with him.

On her travels with the Doctor, Rose goes through many, many different eras of time and history. She is a guest for the viewing of the end of planet Earth, and watches her father die (twice, incidentally), and even meets the Doctor's oldest enemies by the name of Daleks. Her initial meeting with the sole Dalek who has been (somehow) taken as a prisoner and held in a cell where it's powers are sustained goes badly. However before that, The Doctor, Henry Van Statten and his associate Diana Goddard are on their way to the upper levels of Van Statten's building when the Doctor is tricked into also being tortured as a piece of Van Statten's collection. It is during this that Rose has been receiving a tour (unaware of the Doctor's predicament) from one of Van Statten's workers by the name of Adam. It is on this tour that she is first shown what a Dalek is and is shocked that the creature is being tortured. She asks to be taken down to the Dalek so that she man stop the man harming the alien. There, Rose talks to the Dalek offering help to it only to have it tell her that it is dying. Sympathetically, she presses her palm to the top of the Dalek's metal casing which leads the Dalek to absorb her DNA (with the footprint of time travel) and in turn regenerates the feared Dalek, allowing it to return it's power and break free from the chains holding it back. Rose flees from the cell and when the man who was torturing the Dalek beforehand threatens the metal being, the Dalek uses it's plunger-like manipulator arm to crush the man's face, killing him. The cage is then sealed and Van Statten is notified of the situation. In reply to the notification the Doctor tells Van Statten to release him if they want to live.

Rose and Adam are evacuated from the level as the Dalek breaks free from its cell and begins its pursuit of, essentially everyone, in hopes to exterminate them all as per it's functions. The guards fire at the Dalek only to have their bullets melt from the force field surrounding the lone creature before even having a chance to hit it. This leads to the death of all the guards that were firing at it. Van Statten then orders weapons be distributed to everyone, despite the Doctor explaining regular weapons will be no good against a Dalek. At this time, Rose, Adam and a female guard are on the run from the pursuing Dalek reaching a flight of stairs which they feel render them safe as the Dalek's bottom is made flat and it would have no means to climb stairs. This feeling of being safe is destroyed when the Dalek suddenly says the simple word; "Elevate." and begins to hover up the stairs. The female guard, De Maggio, sacrifices herself to buy a little time (very little) for Rose and Adam to escapes despite Rose's protests. It takes a lot of time, but Van Statten manages to restore some power to the bulkheads but comments that it won't last for long. The Doctor holds off activating the doors in hopes that Adam and Rose (especially Rose) will make it to safety, but with the power failing he has no choice but to activate the doors and hope that Rose makes it in time. She doesn't - but Adam does. This leaves Rose helpless with a Dalek just meters away from herself. A Dalek who's primary function is to kill everything and everyone different Dalek because it honestly believes they should die. Using her cellphone, which the Doctor has manipulated into a 'super phone' able to reach service no matter where in the universe she is, she tells the Doctor that it isn't his fault she will be killed, and that despite this - she's had fun with him. The Doctor is left helpless to listen to the cry of the Dalek "Exterminate!" and then... Nothing.

Even though it certainly sounds like it did, the Dalek surprisingly did not kill Rose. The DNA it had absorbed from her made it hesitant and it could sense Rose's fear - something it had never felt before. The Dalek then contacts the Doctor saying that Rose is still alive, but is it's hostage and is demanding that the bulkheads be opened or it will kill Rose this time for real. Despite Van Statten's protests the Doctor tells him that he has killed Rose once and will not go through it again - thus opening the bulkheads. Adam tells the Doctor of a batch of uncategorized alien weapons that he can use to fight against the Dalek, and after sorting through the pile he eventually finds a weapon (a few that he lifted being either broken or one that he called a hairdryer) and heads off to locate Rose and the Dalek. The Dalek, along with his hostage reach Van Statten's office where the Dalek threatens to kill Van Statten for torturing it - but Rose manages to stop it from doing so. When the Dalek hesitates Rose tells it that it no longer needs to kill and asks it what it wants to which the Dalek replies, "freedom."

They ride up to the first level of the base and the Dalek then blows a hole into the roof shedding sunlight onto its metal casing. It opens up its casing to reveal the mutated form of the true form of a Dalek - a small little creature with many tentacles. It is then that the Doctor arrives with his weapon at his side and tells Rose to move aside so that he might destroy the 'last' Dalek, but when she refuses and tells him that the Dalek had the chance to kill Van Statten and didn't, she asks what the Doctor is changing into rather than what is the Dalek changing into? The Dalek, confused with all the new feelings and ideas in its mind from absorbing Rose's DNA asks Rose to order it to self destruct, and reluctantly - she does. The Dalek then rises into the air, and destroys itself. Soon after, Rose joins the Doctor back to the TARDIS and they are off again.

During their travels everywhere, there is a haunting two simple words that follow them everywhere: Bad Wolf. When the Doctor is about to kill himself along with all the Daleks, he sends Rose back to her own time in the TARDIS so that she is spared, even though she would have loved nothing more than to be at his side for her death and his own. While she is helpless in her own time, knowing that the Doctor is about to die she realizes that the words 'Bad Wolf' are a warning to herself initially meaning that she, herself, is the Bad Wolf and that she must return to the future to save the Doctor. The problem is that she has no idea how to work the TARDIS without the Doctor but she does know that the Heart of the TARDIS itself would bring her to him if she asked it to with all her heart. With the help of her mother, Mickey and a rather large truck the TARDIS is broken apart from the inside to reveal the heart and as Rose stares into it and asks to be brought back to the Doctor the doors to the TARDIS close and send her back only this time she is not herself. Through the Heart of the TARDIS Rose has absorbed the energies of the Time Vortex, and essentially all the power of the TARDIS itself. In doing so, she makes it possible to destroy the Daleks just by raising her golden glowing hand and destroying them. However along with this she also uses the vortex energies to resurrect her and the Doctor's friend, Jack Harkness (although she does not know she did this). However, soon the energies she absorbed begin to destroy her body and soon, she will die. To save her, the Doctor sacrifices his ninth lifetime through a powerful kiss - in which he absorbs the power into his own body leading to his death and regeneration as 'the tenth Doctor.'

At first, Rose is confused and concerned with what happened to the Doctor as he no longer looks like the man she first met. Nor does he sound like him, or act like him. She fears that she has lost the man she had fallen in love with (although she never voices this just yet) and he has been replaced with someone who simply could never be 'her Doctor.' Because his transformation was so sudden (and because it happens mostly every time in some form or another) the Doctor falls into a post-regenerative coma leaving him helpless to aid Rose and the other humans to counter the threat of an invasion led by the Sycorax. However, when the Doctor finally manages to recover (all he needed was tea!) and manages to defeat the Sycorax, Rose is more than happy to accept his new face and manner despite the Doctor's laments of being 'rude and not ginger.'

With the 'new new Doctor' as he calls himself, Rose is knighted by Queen Victoria (although immediately exiled from the British Empire afterwards) and along with Mickey, they all three travel to a parallel Earth, where Rose meets an alternate version of her mother and father. However, while they are there an attack from the legendary Cybermen that the Doctor has met before causes them to have to leave. While they are on the way back to the TARDIS Mickey volunteers to stay behind and fight the Cybermen despite any protests Rose has to it. With a tearful good-bye, she is forced to leave Mickey for the last time. Rose and the Doctor return to her own time via the TARDIS, but they realize that the alternate Cybermen along with the Daleks are invading her Earth. Even though Rose and the Doctor manage to remove both enemies from Earth, Rose is nearly pulled into the "Void" between the worlds in the process and is only saved by being transported to the alternate Earth. There, she is trapped - despite being reunited with Jackie, Mickey and the alternate Peter Tyler, she is unhappy. The Doctor manages to project his image through the last crack between the universes, sharing a teary good-bye for the very last time with her. He tells Rose that she is presumed dead on her real Earth as a result of the invasion; Rose tells the Doctor that she will be working at the alternate version of the Torchwood Institute from all the experience with aliens she gained from traveling with him. Finally, at this time, Rose confesses her love to the Doctor. When the Doctor begins to reply to her via projection image he gets as far as "If it's my last chance to say it... Rose Tyler--"

And then the connection fails - forever.

Although working for Torchwood is rewarding, it is nothing compared to being with her Doctor. Rose begins to look for any kind of dimensional rifts with Torchwood's technology in hopes of finding one that will lead her back to her Earth where she hopes to find the Doctor. Shockingly, she manages to find one, although it is a small rift and she fears that it will not be opened too much longer. There is also the fact that she has no idea where it will lead her to, but it is her only hope. And so gathering up anything she can find that will fit into one sole bag, Rose makes her way to the area the rift was located on the monitor she read it on. With high hopes she makes her way through the rift and finds herself... Not in London but in front of a rather large building with the title "Poseidon Academy."
